How We Approach Nutrition

We utilize various philosophies and frameworks in supporting our clients including Health at Every Size®, Intuitive Eating, weight inclusivity, and a non-diet approach. Our goal is for you to interact with food, movement, and your body in a way that is truly fulfilling and free from being driven by external rules, “shoulds”, and shame. We believe that everyone deserves this opportunity to heal and feel okay in their bodies. We are forever learning about all the different intersections that people experience in feeding themselves and taking care of their bodies and doing our best to adequately support each unique person we work with.

We are gearing up to offer a variety of support groups in the coming months, please email us at hello@feedingyoursoulnutrition.com if you are interested in receiving more details!

Looking for an alternative to 1:1 counseling?!

We are in-network with United Healthcare, Aetna, Blue Shield of CA, & other BCBS PPO Plans.

We will need a front and back copy of your insurance card and some personal identifying information from you in order to submit claims on your behalf.

In California, Blue Shield and Anthem Blue Cross are two separate networks. We are IN-network with Blue Shield, but not with Anthem Blue Cross.

Being in-network providers unfortunately does not automatically guarantee coverage for sessions. Completing our insurance questionnaire to verify your plan specific benefits will help you gather some information, but it is not a guarantee of coverage. We will do our best to advocate for coverage of your sessions. If insurance denies coverage, you are responsible for full payment of sessions.

If your insurance does cover sessions, there are usually 3 scenarios that occur:

What You Need to Know About

using insurance

1)

Insurance covers 100% of all your visits.

3)

You have to meet your deductible before insurance starts covering and you are responsible for the amount as indicated on the Explanation of Benefits (EOB). It is your responsibility to know what your plan is covering and what you are responsible for.

2)

Insurance covers a portion and you owe a copay or coinsurance.

PPO vs. HMO

A PPO plan does not require a referral.

An HMO plan requires a referral from your doctor before we can schedule an initial session. We will give you the information needed to request a referral from your doctor to work with us.

If you don't have one of the insurances we are in-network with...

We are out-of-network with all other insurance providers at this time. Some plans have decent out of network benefits and we are happy to accommodate by providing you with a superbill to submit for reimbursement or bill your insurance directly!

frequently asked questions

Great question! The short answer is that intentional weight loss attempts almost never lead to long-term significant weight loss or improvement in health, and often have negative side effects. To read more about our why, click here.

Why don't you recommend dieting?

A registered dietitian is a nutrition professional that is trained and required to meet strict educational requirements. They must complete a bachelor's degree, an accredited supervised dietetic internship, pass a national exam and complete continuing professional educational requirements to keep their license active. A dietitian specializing in eating disorder recovery has specific training and experience on the unique and evidence-based treatment and care for those struggling with any acuity of an eating disorder. Eating disorder recovery is rooted in a non-diet approach, health at every size® principles, and helping people become more attuned with their own values and needs.

Why see a dietitian over a nutritionist? Why an eating disorder specialist?

Yes! Each dietitian has a limited number of sliding scale spots available. Please reach out if you'd like to work with one of our dietitians and are in need of a reduced fee spot.

Do you offer sliding scale sessions?

We are an in network provider with Blue Shield of CA, United, and Aetna! For all other insurances, we are an out of network provider and can provide superbills for reimbursement.

Do you take insurance?

Sessions typically start with a general check in, review of the prior week and asking the client if there is anything specific they want to focus on in their session. From there, the dietitian may ask open ended questions to explore thoughts, feelings, or behaviors further. You may review wins and struggles that came up with food, movement, and your body image in the previous week. There may be discussion of upcoming events that prompt some preplanning and cope ahead strategies. While each client and each session may look different, we do our best to show up with compassion, empathy, open ears, understanding, and ready to challenge your eating disorder!

What is a typical session like?

Feeding Your Soul Nutrition requires a 48 hour cancellation for all scheduled appointments. A full session fee will apply if cancellations are not done within the 48 hour window of your scheduled appointment time. We do understand that emergencies happen and require documentation for these instances. This policy protects our time and yours and we appreciate your understanding!
